Product Review: ArtNaturals Men’s Body Wash

Let’s face it, there are a LOT of options out there when it comes to men’s body washes.  Does anyone else remember the days when it was less “manly” to use body wash and you had to use bar soap to be a real guy? I do. And Im glad those days are long gone.

ArtNaturals, as the name suggests, is a personal grooming brand focused on bring its customers high quality, natural products. They craft everything from body washes to essential oils (and diffusers!), lotion, shaving cream, etc. They basically have anything that you might need for your grooming needs.

The folks over at ArtNaturals shared some of their goodies with me and I’ll look forward to sharing all my thoughts with you. Today, I’ll talk about my experience with Men’s Body Wash.

You may have noticed by now, but I’m a sucker for a natural ( or mostly natural) product. I figure, why not use mostly natural products as much as possible, right? They can often be more expensive than products with a lot of synthetic, or man-made chemicals, and that’s often something to consider. But, I think it’s worth to cut back in other places when you can have more knowledge about putting better ingredients on or in your body.

It is exactly this reason that I really enjoy what I’ve tried from ArtNaturals so far. You can smell and FEEL the natural quality of their creations. They are effective, but not harsh. Fragrant, but not overwhelming in any way. In short, they hit my natural product sweet-spot.

The Men’s Body Wash is a great example of this. Formulated with aloe, cocoa butter and shea butter, it’s evident from the second this stuff touches your skin that you’re not only being cleansed but also being nourished. It has hints of that nutty shea butter smell and has that smoothness that cocoa butter and aloe provide so well.

For those use to super soapy and sudsy washes, this isn’t going to seem to be a great cleanser for you, but I think it is. It cleanses well without completely stripping my skin. It’s one of the reasons why I think it’s  perfect for summer. Imagine that you’ve been at the beach all day reading a book, playing in the sand or diving in and out of the ocean. It’s hot and you get home about 3 shades darker than when you left (I’ve been there!). You KNOW your skins is parched even though you used sunblock and tried to say hydrated. This Men’s Body Wash is what you need afterwards. The combination of ingredients offers your skin the nourishment that it needs, without the stripping element of your average body wash.  It’s a winner, in my eyes, and I think that if you try it, it will be one for you too.

A Look at Grooming for the Simple Man

If you’ve looked through the product review section here on MANE MAN then you know that there are a LOT of grooming products out there. It seems that I’ve made it my personal mission to try just about everything. This means that when something new comes across my desk I want to share my experience with all of you!

I recently had the opportunity to try out Simple Man products. These products are described as “salon quality male grooming products”.

For my trials with the products I spent some time with two varieties of shampoo, conditioner and body wash; one formulated with tea tree oil and the other with lavender oil. I personally liked both scents but found it best to keep both body washes away from my face or eyes as the scents/oils can be irritating.

That being said, the products work pretty well. Overall, I think that the body washes were actually my favorite of the bunch, keeping in mind that I am pretty finicky about what I use on my hair. The products are solid, there’s no doubt about that, but for someone with hair as dense and thick (and long?) as mine is as the moment, I needed more oil and slip to these formulations.

I particularly enjoyed the shampoo formulated with tea tree oil as it is so good for your scalp. The gentle tingle of tea tree oil is one I’m familiar with and I like to revisit as often as I can. I generally find the scent nice as well as it seems distinctly fresh and masculine in my opinion.

It should be noted that the products that I have actually used the most thus far are: lavender oil body wash, tea tree oil conditioner and teal tree oil body wash.  These are the products that I found myself going back to again and again without so much of a thought. The body washes aren’t drying and leave a nice, lingering scent for both the lavender and tea tree oil varieties.

Here is what’s cool about Simple Man….you can purchase a set of their respective body care lines for $35.00. With that you get a 16 oz. body wash, conditioner and shampoo with the scent of your choice. That’s not a bad deal, is it? And for those of you who live in houses with a couple of gents in the home, these are good quality buys for a reasonable price. As always, you get what you pay for and when you opt for better products that include actual oils (and not just synthetic ones) you get better results like moisturized and nourished skin and hair.

If you’re looking to keep it simple, give Simple Man a try.  You can view more about Simple Man at simplemanbrand.com.

Product Review: American Crew 24-Hour Deodorant Body Wash

ACrew 24 Hour Deodorant Body Wash

Self described as the “Official Supplier to Men”, American Crew is a well established brand in the men’s grooming game. Today, I review their 24-Hour Deodorant Body Wash. Read on for the review!

In at 15.2 ounces, American Crew’s 24-Hour Deodorant Body Wash is a man-sized helping of soap. First, let me just dig into the styling of American Crew products…I’ve always liked them! The brown/amber-colored bottle reads masculine sophistication so it’s definitely one of those bottles I don’t mind lingering around my bathroom.

One of my favorite features of the product is the smell. The scent is a combination of some sort of minty orange concoction which definitely speaks to the citric acid and peppermint oil in the ingredients list. The downside is that the product also heavily relies on sodium laureate sulfate (SLS for short) which is known as a mild skin irritant and drying agent. Unfortunately, many skin care and cosmetics products include SLS. It’s one of those ingredients that helps create that nice, foaming, soapy action. Truth be told, there wasn’t any noticeable dryness on my end, but then again I probably could be called a compulsive lotioner.

Overall, American Crew’s 24-Hour Deodorant Body Wash makes for a refreshing, nice clean. I really enjoyed the scent of the soap but I can’t vouch for the claim that the odor protection lasts 24 hours because how does one actually manage to observe that?! Nonetheless, I think the 24-Hour Deodorant Body Wash is a good body wash but is too expensive for me to purchase and use daily at about $12 per bottle. I think I’ll probably just stick to a more affordable, drug-store option that features very similar ingredients.

Product Review: Every Man Jack Body Wash

Source: Soap.com

Forever on a search to find the best in men’s grooming products, I was happy to try out Every Man Jack’s Signature Mint Body Wash.  Check out my review below!

Packaging:  Before running across Every Man Jack on Soap.com, I hadn’t even heard of the brand. I was initially intrigued by the signature brown bottle which, along with the name, makes me think of Westerns and cowboys and all that manly stuff.  This stuff is clearly for the guys with its simple and muted design.  The body wash actually comes in a few different scents, all of which feature a graphic image of a different color on the bottle.  The ribbed side makes it easy to handle in the shower and the bottle is pretty easy to squeeze too.

Consistency:  This body wash is really a gel as the consistency is pretty thick.  I really enjoyed this because it makes it difficult to overuse the product which is generally a problem for me.  I’m pretty heavy-handed with all my products so this consistency made it easy for the wash to last for quite some time.

Smell:  The scent I purchased to try was the Signature Mint, which as you can imagine, smells like mint.  Overall, the scent was pleasant and not overwhelming by any means.  If you’re a fan of mint, then I would guess that you will likely enjoy this refreshing scent.

Price: I bought the body wash from Soap.com for about $6.25 for almost 17 ounces making this definitely a good value.

Overall Impression: Every Man Jack seems to be a brand that values bringing natural based products to guys who are looking for something better and more effective than traditional bar soap. In this, Every Man Jack succeeds.  For me, while the scent, price and styling are great I did not feel the wash provided me with moisture that I really need on a daily basis.  All in all, this is a definite step up for a guy whose is transitioning from traditional bar soaps but not the best “drug store” brand of cleansers out there.

Product Review: Shea Moisture African Black Soap Shea Butter Wash

Source: Prettynaturaldivas.com

Packaging: Like I discussed in a previous post, Shea Moisture Argan Oil & Raw Shea Body Scrub, I enjoy Shea Moisture’s overall brand design. The African Black Soap Shea Butter Wash is no exception. While the label is slightly reminiscent of Halloween with its orange font on a black label, I still really enjoyed the packaging.  The wash itself is a sort of black/dark purple color which is really atypical of body products.

Consistency:  The wash is of a medium consistency.  It’s more of a translucent liquid wash instead of a creamy one, which I would typically not go for in the Winter months.  But with the strong shea presence, I didn’t worry too much about that. One thing that was unexpected were the small beads in the wash.  To be frank, I initially found them to be a little odd but they dissolved so quickly that I didn’t give them too much thought. I later discovered that they are jojoba beads which help this wash nourish the skin during each use. For more on the benefits of jojoba check out this article from Purcell Jojoba International.

Smell:  I love sweet-smelling products but initially I found this scent to be overwhelming.  To be honest, I’m probably a little hypersensitive to smells and after a few tries I get used to them and this was the case with the African Black Soap Wash.  The base is pretty heavy with beets so if you are not a fan of beets or allergic then you should absolutely steer clear.  Otherwise, I found the smell to generally pleasant and it smells great in a steaming hot shower.

Price: Fortunately for me, this is one of three products that I purchased a few months ago at Shea Moisture’s pop-up booth at the Bryant Park Holiday Market. They were running a great 3 products for $20 deal at the time which is pretty much a steal! On the shelves the wash typically retails for about $10.

Overall Impression: Trying an alternative to the typical drug store body wash has proven to be a VERY good decision. Originally designed for acne prone & troubled skin, Shea Moisture’s Organic African Black Soap Shea Butter Wash delivered on the promise of nourishing my skin and provided much-needed moisture on dry Winter days. I do have pretty dry skin and Winter only exacerbates the problem due to the low humidity.  But I have to say that since I’ve been using this wash I found myself less diligent about lathering up in lotion to prevent those Winter dry skin itchies.  I’ve had the bottle since late November and it is now almost February so it lasts as well.  Finally, if you are looking for a consistently moisturizing product, shell out a few more bucks for this wash because it’s definitely worth it.
