How to Maximize Your Attractiveness: Adopt These 7 Grooming Habits ASAP

Guest submission by Robin Salvador.

Do you have a social event you need to attend to or just trying to make an impression?

With all things to consider: from the shoes, hair, and clothes; you are off being busy in making yourself socially presentable – sporting the classic hairstyles for men, and looking very dapper in a new suit, this all easily translates to a well-groomed guy. But of course, rather than just keeping yourself well turned-out for a special occasion, why not make it an everyday habit? After all, a guy who exudes a level of confidence with his persona is something you would want to embody even in a casual setting.

For any guy who wants to make an impression, I am revealing the seven grooming habits all young debonair men have in common. It’s time to make a change ASAP!

Skin Care

For any well-groomed guy, he factors in a good sunscreen. You want to maintain a healthy skin on a daily basis. When you’re an active guy, all you need is a good, effective sunscreen. It can make all the difference. Remember to always use sunscreen to protect your skin from sun damage and harmful UV rays. In addition, a great moisturizer is always handy as it prevents any cracks and peeling dry skin from worsening.

Be a regular at your barbers

When you’re living in a fast-paced environment, there are times you’ll most likely prolong doing activities/chores such as going to your barber shop to get yourself shaved and cut. One habit you need to apply is to book your appointment beforehand so that you already make time for it in your schedule.

Find your signature scent

Men who smell great are definitely more attractive. A signature scent amplifies your presentation to others. In general, we identify every person we know based on how they look and how they smell. So if you want to make a striking impression, a signature scent is what you need. Just don’t go overboard and wear too much so that people around you are overwhelmed by it.

Hair Products

Well-groomed guys also swear by the hair products they use. They want to have a hairstyle complimentary to their attire. So for your own hair products, you need to know and identify which products work well for you. Does your thick hair handle pomades and gels well? If you are a bit lost on what hair products you should choose, ask your barber if he or she has some suggestions.

Dental Care

Not only is skincare and hair care important, dental care is a no-brainer. Since brushing your teeth alone takes up a small percentage of dental care, be sure to floss your teeth every day because this helps prevent gum disease and bad breath.

Facial Grooming

Managing your facial hair or manscaping, to be exact, isn’t something you need to hold out on. Keep things neat. Taming facial hair is necessary to look your best. If you want to present well and be taken seriously, trim it enough to make it look nice and clean. You don’t have to necessarily shave your beard off, just cut it in a nice length where you can still manage it.

Hand-care and Foot grooming

A good habit to note is having your nails cut once in a week, or when your nails get long enough that you scratch yourself. Make it a routine to do your nails after you shower because it’s easy to cut them when they’re softer. It is also important to be mindful of the flaky skin around your nail beds. To help soften those, dab some moisturizer around your nail beds to treat and smooth them down. It is these small details that will make a big difference.

How to Find the Right Suit for Every Occassion

There comes a time in many of our lives where we have to step outside of our comfort zones and deal with the (mostly) inevitable rite of passage of formal suit wear.  For some of us our first foray into formal attire is church events or weddings, for others (like me) it was high school prom or cultural balls.  In any event, sometimes it’s hard to know exactly what to wear.

In fact, this is something that women fuss with guys over at different periods in our lives, but it’s also something that women relish in.  A nice suit is akin to women’s lingerie as they say.

Attraction aside, the women in our lives like it when we dress to fit the occasion and wearing a nice blazer or suit always makes me feel a little extra smooth. It still makes me feel like a mature adult even if they are days in which that doesn’t seem all that applicable (Saturday nights, anyone?).

For the partners, moms and significant others out there, I’ve come across this handy guide from the folks at The Black Tux which can help.  This infographic will help your guy find the right threads for whatever occasion is on your his agenda.  And as you start to make prom preparations in the coming months, The Black Tux has a selection of prom suits and rentals for you to choose from too! I wish this was around when I was in high school as it would have made the search for the perfect suit a lot more convenient.

I’m not a fashionisto but I do appreciate a well put together outfit. To take your style to the next level I think it’s all about the details. Find a unique tie bar,  lapel pin, or pocket square to accentuate your personality. At events it’s these little details that help start conversations and garner a little extra attention. They can be great icebreakers!

My Only New Year’s Resolution – No More Wrinkles!

Happy new year everyone!  I hope that you all had a great holiday season. Welcome to 2017!

I know that so many of us embrace resolutions at the beginning of each year but I have to be honest and say that I’ve focused less and less on resolutions by the time New Year’s Day rolls around. To be honest, the only one I entertain is the idea that I keep pushing myself towards my personal and professional goals everyday.

Aside from that, looking professional and put together is an important step as a working professional. Here’s the thing though, I HATE ironing and preparing clothes for work. I’m the kind of guy who likes to get up, throw on a shirt and pants (and funky socks) and call it a day. I try to design my closet so that anything goes with well, anything.  But there are some days (more often than not) that I don’t hang or fold clothes right out of the dryer which means I’m left with wrinkly shirts and that’s not cool.

I was fortuitous enough to receive some samples of Downy Wrinkle Releaser which actually helps with this.  Here’s the rundown of some of my pros and cons of the product:

  • It has a sticky texture that will make you feel a little coated if the products lands on your hand or any other surface in your home. A mirror of mine has fallen prey to the residue a few times.
  • Unfortunately, this is a product that you have to plan to use. Unlike ironing, you have to spray down your shirt or clothing ahead of time to give it time to adequately dry, unlike ironing which takes 10 minutes per outfit (approximately). This means you may have to plan ahead of time, or prepare the night before, in order to have your clothes ready for the next day.

  • It works!  I took some pictures to show you but I have to say that it’s difficult to capture the progress via camera.  What I can tell you is that I felt infinitely more comfortable wearing an unironed oxford shirt when I used Downy Wrinkle Releaser. It definitely smooths out wrinkles pretty well if you follow the instructions.
  • It’s convenient for multi-taskers. I find that I always have 300 hundred things on my mind (it seems) so being able to spray down a shirt or pants and let it air dry for a little while makes good sense to me. In the morning, this leaves me time to shower or make coffee. At night, this means I can prep for the next day while doing paperwork or other things (like binge-watching Sense8!).
  • Along with the at-home bottle version, there is also a travel sized spray bottle that…travels well.  I also gave a few away as stocking stuffers for Christmas. You’d be surprised by how much people hate ironing, or maybe not. When I asked a friend for follow-up if she had used it her response was, “I have. IT WORKS!”  So there you go.
Would you try out a spray like this so you didn’t have to iron everyday?

Product Review: Urban Exec Political Party Socks

Let’s be honest, this election season in BANANAS! The campaign season is entirely too long and folks, we’ve still got a LONG way to go.  If you’re politically minded and want to show off your party pride for the rest of this campaign season, I think that you may be interested in some pretty cool offerings via Urban Exec Socks.

Recently, the folks over at Urban Execs sent me a cool pair of their Political Party Socks. As I fall on the more liberal side of the political spectrum, I chose the Democratic Party Socks. What makes them democratic you ask?  They come complete with little blue donkeys, a symbol for the democratic party.

Urban Exec Socks are a cool, and subtle, way to honor your political party affiliation (or your general love of America).  But, not only do they have these themed socks, but they have an array of stylish socks for everyday wear as well. I find them to be pretty comfortable and perfectly thick/thin. They’re of pretty good quality and you definitely pay for that at around $21-22 bucks per pair.

I’ll definitely be wearing what I like to call my “donkey socks” again, but perhaps elephants are more your speed.  Either way, check out Urban Exec Socks, I’m sure you’ll find something to your liking. And if you’re buying for dad, these socks would make a great Father’s Day gift and were included as a bonus pick in my recent collection 19 Incredible Gifts for Dad on Father’s Day.

Björn Borg Shows Us its Nudes

Björn Borg launches new underwear collection covering a range of nude skin tones.

In March 2016, apparel brand Björn Borg launched it’s new “Skin Collection” for both men and women. With a new dedication to providing “nude” products for a wider range of people, Björn Borg used the Fitzpatrick Skin Scale to offer up 6 new shades of nude underwear to be more inclusive.

Being more inclusive isn’t just a ploy for diversity and political correctness these days. With more and more customers identifying as multiracial, brands need to understand that in order to keep up with the market, updating their definition of “nude” is essential.

For about €32.95 (currently about $37 US) customers can have their own shade of Björn Borg’s latest offerings.  While men can get in on the action, it’s obvious that the new definition of “nude” will empower many more women of color to feel comfortable in their garments which require something closer to their own skin tone.

The offerings are somewhat limited as only Hotpants are available for women and Short Shorts available for men. You can find the new Skin Collection on the brand’s website at Enjoy!

Fall is (Almost) Here!

fall bench

I know that for a lot of us we’ve been braving some pretty hot and humid summer days the past few months.  And if you’re like me your patience is starting to wear very thin. Thankfully, fall is almost here!

A few days ago NYC hit a heat record, with a 90+ day in September.  It’s time for this to all be over my friends!  I have always really loved the moderate temps in both the fall and spring.  With fall comes the excitement to bust out layers and boots which, in my opinion, offers the best fashion out there. And who doesn’t love a nice cardigan?!

In an effort to relish in the upcoming hopefully chilly weather, I’ve been shopping.  I’ve taken some time to really up my game in the MANE MAN Shop.  There are some great new threads to choose from as well as some more stuff for home so feel free to check it out!

100 Years of Men’s Fashion in 3 Minutes

I’ve always been interested by style throughout history but frankly I’m just a little too lazy to really do the research to delve further into the vault of men’s wear. That’s why I was especially happy to come across this video via, 100 Years of Men’s Fashion.

While I can’t really give the model any props for his dance moves (sorry guy!), I am thoroughly impressed by the team’s ability to completely transform this guy from the 20th to the 21st century without missing a beat.  The 80s and 90s looks had me shaking my head in disbelief as I remember them all to clearly.  By the way, can we go back to Miami Vice white linen sans the mullet? I’d be on board with that.

Getting a Feel for Rockport DresSports Luxe Cap Toe Oxford: A Review & Giveaway

rockport cap toe oxford review maneman

Work hard, play hard.  That’s what life is all about isn’t it?  Well, in my case, also comfort.  I don’t consider myself a fashionisto by any means but I’m the kind of guy who tries to keep up with trends and style, even with my classic sensibility.

I’ve always liked Rockport shoes since I was gifted a pair as a teenager. Since then, my love affair with the brand has grown and I love their #RockportChallenge because not only does it give me an opportunity to try out some of their best offerings, but it also gives me the opportunity to pass on some perks to you!  Check the end of this post for an opportunity to win your very own pair of Rockport shoes!

DresSports Luxe is Rockport’s latest venture to combine the comfort of athletic shoes with the style of business dress shoes.  And I have to say, I’m definitely a fan.  I’m the type of person who believes you really shouldn’t be wearing tennis shoes (or sneakers or whatever you call them in your neck of the woods) unless you’re working out. It goes without saying that tennis shoes shouldn’t be paired with business or even business casual looks. But doesn’t mean that you have to suffer with foot pain throughout those long work days just to be dressed stylishly and appropriately.

Here are some of the features of DresSports Luxe:

  • VIBRAM outsoles give a durable grip on a variety of surfaces
  • Padded collars and tongues help prevent blisters and lace bruising
  • Strobel construction provides forefoot flexibility
  • Ortholite footbed with EVA cushioning provides fast comfort and lightweight support
  • ADIPRENE® by adidas provides shock absorbing heel cushioning
  • Rich leathers give immediate fit, comfort and become more beautiful with each wear and shine

I got to try out the brown Cap Toe Oxfords (pictured above) and they’re super comfortable.  When I put them on the first time I actually thought about all the stylish but horribly uncomfortable dress shoes I’ve worn in my life.  These shoes are padded for extra comfort and while they look like a very classic style, inside they are anything but.  I definitely felt like I was walking on a well-supported cloud of air. I’ve still got to break them in a bit, but I have not experienced any blisters or discomfort that usually comes with a new pair of kicks.

Here’s your opportunity to win!

If you want to try your own free pair of these gems (pictured above), leave a blog post comment below to enter. That’s all you have to do! In your comment tell me if you have ever tried Rockport shoes and what feature you’re most curious about. The winner will be selected by next Thursday, July 9, 2015.  Good luck gents!

Update:  Congrats to Haley (entry #1). You’re our winner! Please check your email on instructions to claim your prize.  Thanks to everyone for participating.

Spring Adventure Style with Rockport Shoes #PoweredbyRockport

Walk360 Rockport
Rockport Walk360 shoes in Blueberry/Real Teal

By nature, I’m not an adventurous person. Well yeah that’s a bit of an exaggeration as I’m a pretty well documented creature of habit. That’s why when I was charged with creating some sense of adventure by the folks over at Rockport Shoes for the first challenge in 2015, I had a pretty difficult time thinking of something really out

Let me start by saying that NYC has basically been a metropolitan tundra this Winter (and it continues!) so I was all to eager to get out and just walk in some milder weather as March rolled in. The plan was to take a nice long stroll in the concrete jungle to get my blood flowing again after basically being a hibernating bear for the past few months.  Unfortunately that also means I’ve been doing a lot of eating and sleeping, but I digress.

As I planned to take this new epic trek in my Walk360 shoes by Rockport, sadly the nasty winter came swarming back in. So instead I opted to lace up when my friend and many other NYC’ers decided to get in a little exercise themselves at the 2015 NYC Half-Marathon.

For me, it turned out to be a chilly but not too cold day which made it the perfect time to try out the new kicks. Plus we got a little power walking in so as to not miss our friend crossing the finish line.  The good news, not once did I think of my shoes or feet being uncomfortable and that’s after hours of standing and walking around.

Superior Denim: A Review of Mott & Bow Jeans

I’m pretty sure that, like most of you, I have a closet full of denim. But as I’ve always been pretty conservative with cash I’ve reserved spending money on more substantial items like good shoes or nice shirts and admittedly have typically opted for an average pair of jeans. Well, that might be changing.

As I go into this review, feel free to let Drake play in the background 🙂

The folks over at Mott & Bow decided to take a chance on my limited denim expertise and asked me to go a round with their straight leg Thomson jeans.  I think there might have been some sort of denim bat signal saying that I needed help escaping my $20 jeans obsession.

I had to opt for the Thomson jeans over the skinny ones because well, I’m not a skinny dude and that’s just not my style anyway.  So after a bit of consultation with the Mott & Bow team we settled on the Thomson, a black denim which has clean lines and is super stylish.

Mott and Bow Thomson
Thomson jean by Mott & Bow

The Thomson jean fits great and is so versatile that it can practically be paired with anything. But by far the best feature of Mott & Bow jeans is how they feel.  The jeans are incredibly soft.  Like butter.  I almost wish I were exaggerating. You know those informercials for women’s sweatpant jeans?  Imagine what those might feel like…that’s what Mott & Bow jeans feel like.  They feel like sweatpants against your skin but look incredibly stylish and clean.  They’re real jeans! They’re just awesome.

While I haven’t purchased a pair of Mott & Bow jeans for myself yet, I’m sure there’s another pair in my future.  I just have to make room in my closet and get rid of some of those “bad jeans” sometime soon.  I guess it’s almost time for spring cleaning, right?
