Over the past couple of weeks I’ve had someone come up to me and say, “Nice blow out!” After I wipe the confusion from my face I usually respond like this, “…Thanks.” Then I think to myself, what is a blow out? Isn’t it just hair that’s blow dried straight? I doubted myself so naturally I went online and ultimately ended up at the only place appropriate for this sort of thing… Urban Dictionary defines a blow out as:
A hairstyle worn mainly by young Italian-American men. Sideburns and the nape of the neck start at a “1″ and gradient speedily up to a full-blown Italian-American Afro. Hair is gelled into a spikey-look and pulled from the head to maximize height and width.
So, a blow out is a hairstyle a la Pauly D from the Jersey Shore…
Now, apparently this is the same as this:

IKR!! It’s funny how people use words and other terms interchangeably and it’s not the case to be done in most situations….I thought a blowout was a blown out hairstyle as well….
ummm, yeah so a blow out is def hair that is blown out with a blowdrier. I don’t know what crack they were smoking. It can be done by any ethnic background but def it invlolves the use of a blowdrier.
Ha, people refer to my hair as a jheri curl, s curl, texturizer everyday. my best friends and family thought i used relaxers… i was so confused. they’ve never known me too do such a thing. plus i swim, and shampoo like no ones business…. people
The former picture is more like a gel out, it only makes sense that the latter would be a blow out!
Never heard this style called this prior to your post! Then, I was hanging out with my Italian friend and he said it!! I was like, “WHAT?!?!?” So, I pulled up your blog to show him how I just learned of this term for THIS look! Crazy!!

Prior to rejoining the natural hair community I thought it was a knock-down/drag-out fight or a sports match/game where someone got beat BAD! lol Now I think of it as a blown out afro….. I’ve never watched jersey shore so that description was a first for me! lol
