I cut my hair! I still have plenty but you might know that lately I haven’t really been feeling my hair all that much. It was getting too hard to deal with and I felt like I needed to switch it up a bit. Plus, my hair does this weird thing (which apparently isn’t all that uncommon) where the ends flop over, which makes them look sort of scraggly (like the dancers, Les Twins). I just got tired of seeing that and the sheer volume of hair I had to deal with on a daily basis. And while I love big hair, recently it’s been a bit too much maintenance for me. So I got a cut!
I walked into the salon (after all, most barbers aren’t prepared to deal with more than 2 inches of hair nowadays) and told my stylist Lisa that I was there for a cut. She was appalled. She kept asking, “Are you sure?….are you sure?!” After a few minutes, I sat down in the chair and she asked me how short I wanted to go. I started having second thoughts. Wait, should I just get the ends trimmed?! I don’t know why but I have seriously never been so nervous about a stupid hair cut. I can do this, I told myself. I took a deep breath and pulled out my work I.D. from about a year and a half ago for some inspiration. I showed it to Lisa (the stylist) and she went at it!
While she was cutting, Lisa was appalled at the variety of textures I had on my head. We seriously had like a 5-10 minute conversation about how my curl pattern is looser on the right side and how the back is basically just a wave and the z type kinks on the right side. The top? She didn’t even try to explain it except to say, “It’s so thick!”
It was probably one of the fastest cuts I have ever gotten. While the length is a little shorter than I wanted it will probably be perfect in like a month or two and that works for me! My stylist Lisa was even kind enough to take a few pics of me in the chair. Check out Afrigenix if you’re in the NYC area and looking for a comfy and cool environment. It’s really a low maintenance, no frills salon where it feels like family. They specialize in natural hair care and I get the impression they can do just about anything that you ask them as long as it keeps your hair healthy. Pics below of the outcome!

i liked this one bro because I am on the other side of the scale. I WANT HAIR! I am getting my first set of locks tomorrow!
Congrats! I’ll definitely be keeping up with your blog now. See if you can coax the stylist to take some pics of you!
